A view of our garden

In 1994, deeply inspired by the work of the Findhorn Garden in Scotland and Perelandra in Virginia, I began to work with nature in a garden that appeared as happenstance  in reality after a dream of a “secret garden”. At that time I was living in an urban environment and free garden space was kind of...uncommon!

The door opened into another world so to speak, bringing into focus the unseen workings of nature and the Cosmos that interface with the concrete world of matter on Earth. Learning through the experience of hands-on gardening, observation and insight about nature and spiritual reality were the first steps on this path. A bit later on, I moved from the city, began a new garden and found resonance with these experiences, in the concepts expressed by deeply original thinkers such as Rudolf Steiner and Masanobu Fukuoka as well as Native American and Celtic traditions. A feeling of continuity in a stream of esoteric wisdom emerged as a validitation and encouragement to pursue this path.

Field and Flower inspires and facilitates awakening of the human Consciousness Soul and our potentials as co-creators with Nature and Life.

Today the garden is set within a complex, rural mini-farm and wildlife sanctuary. It hosts an astonishing diversity of animals, insects, and plants: fruit, vegetables, herbs, flowers, shrubs/trees and native plants. Farm production has in the recent past included market salad greens, a specialty nursery as well as extensive self-sufficiency in vegetables. Winter production of vegetables in an unheated hoophouse and coldframes is part of the cycle. Seed saving and developing of greens and other plants suited to the Mid-Atlantic region of the U.S. is an ongoing project. Rare breed chickens are a more recent addition to the farm. Each year several classes are offered on such topics as Biodynamic Compost and Preparations; Becoming Acquainted with Nature Spirits and Their Work; Wild-Minded Gardening,Creating Beneficial Insectary Plantings, and Extended Season Vegetable Growing.

The main activity of the farm, though, is the “magic” that is engendered through the devoted working in communication with nature and what this work allows me to share with others, including the Field and Flower Earth Essences, clsses, writings and encouragement for the intrepid travelers walking along this road!
